Carriage House Visitor Display Improvements
The Carriage House serves as the gathering point for the 10,000+ visitors welcomed to Terrace Hill annually. Improvements to the museum displays located in the Carriage House will enhance the overall guest experience and share this landmark’s incredible history.
Reflecting Pool Access
Originally built in 1928, the historic pool is a focal point on the guided tours at Terrace Hill. To date, the Terrace Hill Partnership has completed two major projects to this area, fully restoring the pool as a reflecting pool and later completing the reconstruction of the original log structure over the pool house. The final component is providing access to the pool. Currently there is no safe access for public visitors. The project will encompass an ADA-compliant stair with a handrail, lighting and sidewalk extending to the pool house. Access to the reflection pool will offer an important point of historical interest for tour visitors, as well as a unique venue for special events.
Historic Greenhouse and South Garden Enhancements
During the early years of Terrace Hill’s history, greenhouses were used by the Allen and Hubbell families to grow and overwinter plants for their home and garden. This project is a reconstruction that will pay homage to the original B.F. Allen greenhouse located on the property 150 years ago. As part of the historic greenhouse reconstruction project, enhancements will be made to restore the surrounding garden and structures in the south garden. The greenhouse design features an offset roof, custom structure, and ornamented doors that match closely to the tower windows on the Terrace Hill residence. The greenhouse will be utilized during tours and events to interpret this aspect of Terrace Hill’s history and to grow and overwinter tropical plants.
