Visit Terrace Hill, Iowa Governor’s Residence & National Historic Landmark
Terrace Hill closes annually in January and February for deep cleaning and interior projects. Terrace Hill will reopen for tours on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.
Guided tours of the first floor, historic gardens and carriage house take visitors back to the Victorian lifestyle of the late 1880s.
What to Expect During Your Terrace Hill Tour
Tours last approximately one hour and begin in the carriage house, which once contained horse stalls and carriages, and now has been renovated into a visitor’s center, museum, and gift shop. After checking in at the carriage house, guests view a 15 minute introductory video and then proceed on a guided tour with a Terrace Hill tour guide. During the guided tour, guests will see the first floor of the residence, the historic gardens and the carriage house.
All visitors at Terrace Hill must be with a guided tour; no self-guided tours are permitted. Visitors are to check in at the carriage house prior to the start of their scheduled tour.
